The Greene County Board of Supervisors invites individuals interested in improving the quality of life in Greene County to participate as a member of a County board, commission, or committee.  Vacancies are advertised at various times throughout the year, and opportunities are available now to serve on various citizen member organizations. 


Board of Zoning Appeals – The Board of Zoning Appeals consists of five members recommended by the Board of Supervisors for appointment by the Circuit Court to serve for a 5-year term.   The Board meets to hear and decide appeals of decisions rendered by zoning administrators, interpret unclear provisions in the zoning ordinance and decide on applications by landowners to permit buildings or land uses which vary from the zoning regulations. Members must be residents of Greene County and qualified by knowledge and experience to make objective, fact-based decisions guided by zoning law.  Professional Board of Zoning Appeals training is provided. Economic Development Authority – The Economic Development Authority has a board of seven directors appointed for four-year terms by the Greene County Board of Supervisors.  The purpose of the EDA is to promote business development in Greene County, consistent with the Comprehensive Plan, the direction of the Board of Supervisors and the intent of the legislation of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The EDA and the Director of Economic Development and Tourism work together to reach the County’s economic development goals.  The EDA Board meets the third Tuesday in January, March, May, July, September at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room at the Economic Development Office located at 8315 Seminole Trail, Ruckersville.  For additional information please contact Alan Yost, Director of Economic Development and Tourism at 434-985-6663.


Jefferson Area Board for Aging Advisory Council – Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) was established in 1975 and serves the needs of the aging community in the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson.  With a mission to promote, establish and preserve sustainable communities for healthy aging that benefit individuals and families of all ages, JABA faces many challenges to support a growing population of elders.  Council members act to provide input on the development and administration of JABA’s Area Plan; to participate in public hearings; to represent the interests of older persons; and to review and comment on all community policies, programs, and actions affecting the senior citizens and elder caregivers of Planning District Ten.  The Advisory Council meets on the first Thursday of the month in January, March, May, July, September, November with additional meetings as necessary.  For additional information please visit:


Piedmont Workforce Network Board - PWN has the central role of providing leadership and direction on local strategic workforce issues, identifying local needs and developing strategies to address those needs.  PWN has a total of 34 member and includes Counties of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson and the City of Charlottesville.  The Piedmont Workforce Network is responsible for the oversight and administration of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act’s (WIOA) Adult, Dislocated Worker and Youth programs in the central Virginia region.  These programs are designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy.  The Board meets on a quarterly basis at 3:00 p.m.  For additional information, please visit:   or
